Crush on a Lunchbox

Kevin Smith

yes, Kevin Smith.

I love his movies. It is intellectual adolescent humor. (Is that an oxymoron?) I mean...the man is well versed in pop culture, he has helped to re-write many a screenplay - some of which would surprise you, and he is quite intelligent. He also was an exec producer of an Oscar winning film (Good Will Hunting)
Go figure.
I'm reading his book - "My Boring Ass Life" and I'm laughing out loud. He is like the male version of Jen Lancaster. He bitches about his dogs - So does Jen. He bitches about having to write and take care of stuff - so does Jen. He rants and gushes about his spouse - so does Jen. And both equally do it from the male and female perspective respectfully.
But the book has made Kevin a bit more endearing to me. And yes...he's my fave lunchbox.

If I should have a child...

I know that the fates would be paying me back for all the shit that I have done as a kid...
I bet I would have a little boy
I bet that he would know all the little tricks and naughty things just thru osmosis or because he's just my kid.
and I know that the teacher would be calling or emailing me every day with an update of the latest antics of my son.

And when I saw this picture...I felt for this little boy's parents, because I know that if I ever have a son...he would do this.

How I feel...

I am pretty happy. Ok...I'm not diggin every aspect of my job. I'd like to have more money. I'd like to have a bit less cold and a bit more sun. Maybe 20 less pounds... Just those average sort of wants.

But lately, I have been smiling more, blushing more, hoping more, and realizing how great some things really are in my life.
How blessed I am and how loved I feel. Thanks friends... and I feel like Bridge in the picture... really loved.

Humor in a Snowstorm

It's snowing here again. And I'm getting sick of it. But there is humor in the whole thing.

I live on a hill. A steep hill with a funny grade. My hill MUST be plowed because it is one of two ways to get to the hospital and the police station. So the plows wake me up at 4:15 in the morning quite often.

Well today was a snow day. And at about 3 pm, I made myself a cup of tea and then continued to read my book and then I heard the plow.
No biggie...its snowing they gotta plow but then I heard a backing up...and then loud motor sounds and then.... the plow again and then the backing up...
I looked out my bedroom window to see that this multi-ton truck is stuck on the hill...can only back down and make a running jump ( if that's what you call it) to get up and finish plowing the hill.
I sat for 45 minutes watching this scene, reading the lips of the plow truck driver and watching the process of backing up and starting again. Finally he backed down a long way and then went the roundabout way of plowing the road.

Now I know why little boys love watching big trucks. I don't think it's my cup of tea...pun intended, but I understand

My Birthday Breakfast and Lunch...

I had a wonderful muffin delivered to me with a cup of piping hot coffee in the morning...
Then I had a cupcake with my lunch...(actually it was my lunch)
Then...my mom made me red velvet cake...
(No candles...the house would have burned down)
My ass will never be the same.

All about the butter!

Um... I can tell it is Christmas time. I've overloaded on carbs.
I've overloaded on sweets
I've overloaded on butter laden things.
Last year, I lost weight at Christmas time. You see, last year, Mama G had broken her leg and was in bed most of the holiday season. Meaning...none of Mama's cookies for Christmas of 07.

Well this year she more than made up for it. And just like the potato chips...you can't eat just one.
She made my faves, She made my dad's faves, She made my sister's faves, she made her faves.
And then she made more!
Ding dang. Thank goodness I'm back to work and not surrounded by goodies. And that new pair of skinny jeans I bought for insentive is waiting for me...
Yes, I know what my new year's resolution will be.... Stay away from Mama's cookies.

Sad day in sushi-land

OK, this summer, I got food poisoning. No, it wasn't from sushi. (Thank goodness)

It was from - what I believe - a bad crab cake. If you ever want to give me living hell, feed me a crabcake that has gone awry. You'll see me sick for 3 days, dehydrated, stuck in strange emergency room and hepped up on painkillers (Dalaudin - woah, wicked stuff) that when watching Jon and Kate plus 8, I started to get misty eyed and thought that I could actually handle having 6 Three-year old children at the same time and juggle a husband also.

HA... you should have seen it. I was in a state.

Ok, I digress. I had my check up with the Ruckerman. Some people have doctors... I have a doctor that is like superman - hence the name. Well, we talked about the little episode of food poisoning and what I ate that weekend. He couldn't rule out the sushi. But my friend that I ate the sushi with wasn't sick. So, I'm still thinking the crabcakes.
But I was told that I could not have sushi for at least 6 months. He feels that it might compromise my immune system (long story) so to be on the safe side, I should wait and then try it again and monitor my reaction. OK... i know that I can't eat the average Chinese food and buffet because I get ill from the MSG. (um...remember the girl that turned into a blueberry from eating the gum on Willy Wonka? Well, feed me food with high MSG and watch my lips swell bigger than Pamela Anderson's lips and boobs.)
So I will try it then.

DING DANG
I mean, I want to have spicy tuna roll for my birthday with one of Sharon's cupcakes. I have to wait until March. MARCH!?!?! Ok, I suppose I can manage this. But when there's a sushi happy hour and it is dirt cheap and good for me...what is a girl to do!

I'm trying to keep it in perspective. Um, when the Brewers start playing in the spring...I get to eat sushi.
When it starts to get warmer... I get to eat sushi
When I get to have a vacation... I get to eat sushi
When there is no retail holiday to bug the shit out of me...I get to eat sushi
The list could go on and on.

But in mid-March, I will be sitting , with chopsticks in hand, and eating my sushi
Bring on the wasabi, baby!

a p.s.: the picture above is KNITTED sushi. This is all this girl is gonna get. I think I just might have to knit me some of this and just wait...

Cupcakes and wishes

OH MAN
I was treated to the motherload of all cupcakes.

Be very careful what you wish for. My co-worker, Sharon, is a Primo baker. This woman can cook and can bake so awesomely...

And she watched a Bobby Flay throwdown.
THE RED VELVET CAKE EPISODE

So guess who got her red velvet cake?!?!

And a week before my birthday too.
I was dancing as I was eating my cupcake. I could have eaten at least 4. Yes, they were lush, moist, rich and about the most wonderful taste treat I have had in a long time. I was one happy girl.
You know when little kids get so happy when they are eating... that is how I felt eating this cupcake. I literally moaned when I took my first bite. IT WAS THAT GOOD.
Sharon is a goddess. And next week, she's going to make the challenger's recipe for the Red Velvet cake. OMG!!!
I will be having to put my tap shoes on! I will be really dancing!

I"ll keep you posted but here's the recipe:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sara-moulton/southern-red-velvet-cake-recipe/index.html

(Sharon adapted this for cupcakes. And me being the non-frosting girl... THIS IS OFF THE HOOK FROSTING. But then again, it's a buttercreme based cream cheese frosting. What more can a girl ask for!)

Tastes like...more!

Let Me Eat Cake!

I love cake. I really do. Some people love frosting, but I dont
I prefer cake. Always have always will. MMM....
Warm Chocolate
Vanilla
Marble
and if someone brings me a piece of this... I will just adore them for life:
Red Velvet.
Yes, red velvet cake is my all time favorite. It is moist, it has the hint of cocoa and the color is just lush.
As for frosting...yes, I guess it does need it, otherwise it wouldn't be red velvet cake. Some people like the cream cheese frosting for it... me - I want a butter cream. MMmmm....
Slice me up a big piece of Red Velvet, with buttercreme frosting and a cup of tea and I am so good to go.
I think I might be hungry...

Chrismas music and survival of the Holiday

"And Tonight, Thank God it's them...instead of you."

Yes, it's that time of the year again. The time that you dig out your favorite songs and sing along.
Christmas music is forced upon me at work. I think if I hear one more version of "Sleigh Ride" or "Winter Wonderland", I will just go nuts. But once in a great while, Tony Bennett will come on and croon, or Frank, or Ella, or Harry Connick Jr. Then life is a bit better.
Then... WOOT! On comes U2 and Christmas, Baby Please come Home starts playing and I shout "YEAH" right along with Bono. But when Joey Ramone comes on and sings this ditty... my inner rebel punk girl makes me want to slamdance with glee.
The ONLY song that isn't on is "Do they Know Its Christmas Time?" #1 on my sister's list of fave songs and my all time #1 Christmas tune. Like I said...sing this in the middle of a hot humid summer day and all is good!
So... get out the vinyl or your cassettes...or even your 8-tracks... Who cares!?! Just get that holiday spirit and sing your carol.

Secret Addiction...

Ok, I love Brit Pop stars... But this guy is actually Welsh. TOM JONES!
Yes, the man has a new album out and well... it is a guilty pleasure. (Kind of like having Fruity Pebbles and using Half and Half instead of milk...)
The newest song, "If He Should Ever Leave You" is a bit of a throwback with a bit of a Latin beat and a HUGE backbeat and bass...wow. I definitely have my back shaking.
And well, Tom still has it at 68. He was interviewed on NPR and the man is very gracious, insightful and wants to sing until his last days. AND the Welsh accent.
Then again... I love a man with an accent. Put him in a suit and I'm gone!
So this is on my playlist at the moment.
My mama has a Tom Jones story too.... but I won't post until I get the full backstory on this one. All I know it involves front row seats at a Tom Jones' concert and she was with her best friend, Kathy. OH MAN... Do we really need to know?!? I suppose we do. (Deep down inside, I think Mama G has a wild streak!)
Now go listen to the song. And dance for me.

There is NOTHING wrong about a new purse

I have one. I love it. It is smaller than my usual daily suitcase. I got it on sale. There...
I know I have a purse problem
I have a shoe problem too.
it could be worse.
really
