What are you listening to?

Um...to and from work, I have many things.
Heres a short list...
The Best of Joe Jackson
The Tucker Wedding Mix
Janis Siegel: "A Thousand Beautiful Things"
My Disco Mix - just what it says. Disco music
My Sultry Mix - a mix of jazz and music that gets me in the mood. What mood you say...any mood I want to be in.
Tony Bennett's Greatest.

My music changes, but this is what's playing in the "stereo with wheels" at the mo.

Denny Doherty

Those of you who know my love of music...know my love of vocal harmony. Manhattan Transfer, Beach Boys, The Association, and the Mamas and Papas are just a few of my major influences.
At music camp (don't go there with the American Pie reference...I was a vocal major not a flute player), I found others that were just as influenced.
Since the age of six, I have wanted to be in a group that sounded like The Manhattan Transfer or The Mamas and The Papas.
Today, one of the Papas died. Denny Doherty, the tenor and the vocalist that was featured on "Monday Monday" died today at 66.
There is something so pure about his voice blending with the others. I guess that's why I love these two groups so much...the pure harmonies.
Mama Cass is gone, so is Papa John, and now Papa Denny.

I think I heard it wrong...

I was working and didn't hear the lyrics of a song correctly. Then again, I have done that many times. (just ask my best friend, Mark..."shunnaa naa, hunnnaanaahh")
So what I thought was Steely Dan, but actually was solo Donald Fagen singing. I liked the song. In fact I've always liked Steely Dan...but
I was listening and I thought the chorus went...

"CHRIST ON THE FREEWAY"

When actually the words are:
Swing out To Lake Nostalgia
Route 5 to Laughing Pines
Get off at Funway West
Drive into Springtime
Drive into Springtime

Where do you get Christ on the Freeway from Drive into Springtime?

But I can sing..."I don't care if it rains or freezes, longs I gots my Plastic Jesus...sittin on the dashboard of my car..."
I am so pitiful.

Dopplegangers

OK...you tell me. Which one is a famous Couture Designer and which one is a washed up 70's teen idol?
Everybody has their twin and this is pretty scary.

More Guilty Pleasures...

Ok, When you work the odd hours that I have been for the holidays, a girl has to find small things that make her happy in big ways. Here's a short list but BIG FUN

1. Merlot.
A glass of this and a bath and it's a full night's sleep
2. my cell phone.
It has been one of the only ways I have been able to keep in touch with people.
3. 60's Pop Music
um the short list of songs.
Crystal Blue Persuasion - Tommy James and the Shondells
"Don't you Care" - The Buckinghams
"A Summer Song" - Chad and Jeremy
"Am I the Same Girl" - Dusty Springfield
"Let's Get it On" - MARVIN GAYE
"Little bit me Little bit you" - Monkees
Sad to admit, but love the tunes.
4. Homemade caramels
My co-worker, Barb and I love these babies. They sell them 2 doors down at this little country shop
5. Victoria's Secret
Need I say more?

Guilty Pleasures Revisited.

There are some things that I have been doing lately that has just been pure pleasure. Simple things that I really don't care what other people think... well I do. I wouldn't let everyone know what I'm doing if I didn't -DUH?!?
But these are a few things that just are simple things that when a girl gets done with work...they are mindless and just fun
1. Sandra Bullock Movies... Two weeks Notice, Hope Floats. Nice simple things. And she makes me laugh. A lot.

Sex and the City Reruns. Yes, This is something I will ALWAYS watch.

That and Movies like Shrek, Ice Age and Shark bites... I love being entertained.
I

I would like a Blackberry pearl. I can blog from my bedroom. I can email anywhere...but I really don't have the $$ for one of these things. But it sure would make my life easier.

GUMMI BEARS! This kind also. I don't like the waxy nasty ones...the Haribo Gold. MMM....tasty.

Oh I have a few more, but that is for part two. They take a bit longer to explain!

Looking thru another's eyes.

I never realized how my eye has been drawn to a certian style of image. I have been a reader of Rolling Stone for years and my favourite magazine is Vanity Fair. The pictures and covers have always struck me...especially the picture essays.
But it wasn't until I watched American Masters that I found out how influenced I was and why certian artists and styles appeal to me so. It's all about shadows and light and the hidden meaning behind an image that is simple.
Thanks to Annie Liebovitz... Her Portraiture has always fascinated me, but now more so.
It's always about shadows and light.

Nice eyes...

So the bride, Mrs Tucker, sent me this photo the other day. She and Mark got a lot of photos back from the pro photographer that they hired. I remember the moment this happened. The wedding party was posing for the toast and they couldn't see me drinking out of the glass, so they had me bend down. I forgot I was doing my best "Taming of the Shrew"/Pirate Wench routine that day in my outfit and I bent OVER and not DOWN.
Um...needless to say, the photographer got a pic of all of us but also took this little "candid" of the Best Chick. Yes, I have nice eyes and I am thankfull that I wore sunscreen that day.
So whadda ya think?
